Description

Launched in 1928 for Norddeutscher Lloyd, the SS Bremen was a revolutionary German ocean liner that redefined transatlantic travel through speed, technology, and design. As a premier “superliner” of the interwar period, she featured a distinctive low, streamlined profile and a pioneering bulbous bow.

On her maiden voyage in July 1929, the Bremen captured the prestigious Blue Riband for the fastest transatlantic crossing, averaging 27.83 knots. Alongside her sister ship, Europa, she represented a revival of German maritime engineering, boasting advanced steam turbines and, remarkably, a seaplane for rapid mail delivery. Her interiors were designed with modern, luxury Art Deco styles.

At the outbreak of World War II, the Bremen escaped to Germany, later serving as a troop transport before being destroyed by a fire caused by a crew member in 1941. She was subsequently dismantled, leaving behind a legacy as one of the fastest ships of her era.
