Description
INS Vikrant, commissioned on September 2, 2022, is India’s first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier, marking a historic leap in the country’s maritime self-reliance. Constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) with 76% indigenous content, it represents a major “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative.
It boosts India’s blue-water capabilities and strengthens its position as a preferred security partner in the Indo-Pacific.
Italy (Fincantieri): Acted as a consultant for the propulsion system and engine integration.
Russia (Nevskoye Design Bureau): Provided the design for the Aviation Facilities Complex, including the flight deck layout and the MiG-29K fighter operations.
Israel (IAI/Elta): Supplied the EL/M-2248 MF-STAR advanced multi-function radar system.
