Description
The ITS Cavour (CVH 550) is the flagship of the Italian Navy, commissioned in 2008 as a 27,900-ton STOVL (Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing) light aircraft carrier. Built by Fincantieri, this versatile platform measures 244 meters and serves as a command hub, supporting both fixed-wing operations (F-35B Lightning II, AV-8B Harrier II) and rotary-wing aircraft. A key highlight is its 2,800 \(m^{2}\) hangar, which doubles as a vehicle deck for 24 battle tanks. Modernized to operate fifth-generation F-35B fighters, Cavour completed a significant 2024 Indo-Pacific deployment, demonstrating strategic global projection and interoperability with Allied forces.
